BowlsChat Scramble Leagues for 2020/21 Season

The restriction of numbers at venues due to Covid-19 will have an impact our one day events during the 2020/21 season and although overheads will be considerably more due to the number of sessions, we believe it is a feasible option to add Short Mat Pairs Leagues as a new feature for Scramble players.

All leagues will have ten Pairs in two Sections and run for three weeks at the Jim Baker Stadium with promotion and relegation, repeating  until the end of the season in three hour sessions between Thursday and Sunday night.

The Jim Baker Stadium has extensive Covid-19 precautions in place for their Indoor Leagues, including temperature checks on arrival and one way systems and additional measures were in force for Short Mat to ensure as safe an environment as possible for all players.

League Information

There will be up to 10 different Short Mat Leagues with the following session times:

  • Thursday Evening League: 7pm - 10pm
  • Friday Morning, Afternoon and Evening Leagues: 10am - 1pm, 2pm - 5pm, 7pm - 10pm
  • Saturday Morning, Afternoon and Evening Leagues: 10am - 1pm, 2pm - 5pm, 7pm - 10pm
  • Sunday Morning, Afternoon and Evening Leagues: 10am - 1pm, 2pm - 5pm, 7pm - 10pm

A league will begin the next Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday after 20 Pairs entries have been received.

A waiting list is available for all leagues and pairs on the list will (in order) replace any pair that drops out of a league

All leagues will have 10 Pairs in Section 1 and 10 Pairs in Section 2

Each Pair will play every other Pair once, 3 games per week for 3 weeks

Fixtures and Mat allocations will be available online in advance

Scorecards for all games will be in an envelope for each pair at the end of their first match mat on arrival at the stadium

Results and Tables will be updated on the BowlsChat website and mobile app during the league sessions

All players and subs must register their Covid-19 Contact Details if they wish to play in any Scramble Event during the season

Players may enter one or more leagues

All players in the initial league are automatically entered for the next 3 week league (no need to register again) and should notify BowlsChat if they wish to drop out

Any pair that drops out of a league may re-join at any time through the waiting list

Players should follow the Covid-19 Guidelines for all venues hosting Scramble Events during the 2020/21 season

Players will be allowed into the venue 15 minutes before the start of each session

A livestream of part of all of each league session will be available on the website, new mobile app (available soon) and social media

Players may register online or call/text 07719343661 or send a message on our Facebook Page or email [email protected] to enter a league

Covid-19 Bubble

All players in each league are effectively in a Covid-19 Bubble of 40 people (plus any subs and waiting list replacements) for the 2020/21 season as all 20 pairs are automatically entered for the next 3 week league without needing to register again and may be replaced by a pair on the waiting list if they wish to drop out and re-join later in the season.

The Scramble League Covid-19 Bubbles are similar to a school class bubble with the same people in a similar environment on a regular basis.

Entry Fee

The entry fee is £20 per player (£6, £7 and £7 for three weeks) for each league of nine matches, payable in full at the stadium at the start of week 1 to keep Covid-19 contact to a minimum.

Payment should be placed in the scorecard envelope (remove the scorecards) at the end of the mat for your first match and it will be returned with the correct change (if required) during your second game.

If you use subs during any league event and have already paid your full entry, payment by the subs should be to the original players, not to BowlsChat.

Substitute Players

Up to two subs per pair are allowed during a league event.

A single sub must always play lead and only one sub may be used each week unless a pair cannot play.

A single sub may play 1, 2 or 3 games in any week, but must play each game after the first game played.

If a pair cannot play in one of the 3 weeks, 2 subs may be used for all 3 games, one playing lead and one playing skip. Subs may NOT alternate between lead and skip for the next game.

Any player on the Covid-19 Contact List may be used as a sub as long as they have not already played for any pair in the same 3 week league.

All subs should register on the Covid-19 Contact List but do not need to register for the league.

The winner of each section will receive £75 and the top two pairs in each section will qualify for the next FREE Champions League event for that league, held in weeks 13 and 26.

The Section 1 and Section 2 Champions each receive £75 in a Champions League Event.

A FREE Prize Draw will be made during every league session (each player will be allocated a number between 1 and 40 in the draw)..

Champions League Events

A FREE 16 Pair Champions League Event will be held in weeks 13 and 26 for each league after 4 x 3 week leagues for that league have been completed.

The Champions League Events will take place on the same session day and start at the same session time as their respective 3 week leagues.

A total of four pairs (top two from each section) qualify for the next Champions League event from each 3 week league. If one or both of the top two have already qualified, the pair or pairs in the next league place or places that have not qualified will go through.

The 8 qualifiers from Section 1 will be drawn in 2 Groups of 4, playing 3 Round-Robin games with the winner of each Group playing each other to decide which pair is the Section 1 Champion for a £75 prize.

The 8 qualifiers from Section 2 will follow the same route for a Section 2 Champion and a £75 prize.

All Champions League Events for all Leagues have the same structure and prize pool.

Ranking Points

All players receive Ranking Points at the end of each league, with 10 points for 1st place in a Section down to 1 point for last place.

All Champions League Event Section Winners receive 10 Ranking Points, runner up 5 Ranking Points.

There will be prizes for the top 3 players in the Ranking Table of all leagues at the end of the season.

A link to the Ranking Points Table will be available after the first league has completed.

League Rules

All matches will be 2 bowls per player and 10 ends, with two trials in the first league match only

Leads may not ditch the Jack with their first two bowls

A Pair may change the order or Lead/Skip before the start of any game but NOT during a game

Subs may not change the order of Lead/Skip at any time

Continuous Play - the next match may begin if a mat is available and both pairs are ready

Shots will decide the result of a match and all ends must be played

3 Points for a win, 1 Point for a Draw

If a Pair is not able to play in a match, 3 Points are awarded to the opponent with a score of 10 - 0

The final places in a league table are decided by (in order) Points, Shots Difference, Shots For, Head to Head

Four Pairs will be relegated to Section 2 at the end of a league

Four Pairs will be promoted to Section 1 at the end of a league
